And now for something completely different.
I recently stumbled upon an excellent piece of software for eyeballing qualitative data which can be found here http://www.wordle.net.
After using it for productive reasons, I set about some rather unproductive, but interesting ones. And so, I present to you, the first in a series of posts where the frequency of lyrics by bands are represented visually where those cited most often are larger. Common words are removed and those in different cases are combined.
I started off with LCD Soundsystem for entirely practical reasons as there is only 3 albums, with 9 tracks a piece (ie, it doesn’t take very long as opposed to say Pearl Jam with 9 albums).
Not surprising to see some of these words, where songs like Drunk Girls and Pow Pow are repetitive.
Just looking at it makes me smile. A thousand parties all brought together in one stunning graphic.
Note: lyrics from Losing my edge etc are not present, where I expect the word ‘Yeah’ would be much larger if I included the songs off of disc two of LCD Soundsystem..

Why not check out wordle for yourself? There’s plenty of room to amend the font and layout etc where I chose the above in the interests of clarity and grace.
